Man on the Moon
I really enjoy those days when I can recall exactly where I was and what I was doing an ever increasing number of years ago. My abiding memory of the moon landing was my mum and I getting up in the early hours of the morning to watch on our black and white TV. My dad was working nights at the time. Courtaulds of Keighley, I think.
There was the landing itself – the talking down – Eagle has landed, Tranquility Base. We all knew about The Sea of Tranquility then.
Then a seemingly endless time where the picture was static – a patch of landscape from the underside of the lunar landing craft. Finally, Armstrong clambering down the steps and doing his giant leap speech.
And that was it. Can’t remember a single thing about the rest of the day though.
Now I think about it, if we in the UK saw the landing in the early hours of the morning, is the anniversary for us today or tomorrow?
